The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested ten armed men at the Nyankamam-Armori Forest in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region for allegedly posing as members of the national anti-galamsey task force.
The suspects, who are believed to have links with the Aowin Traditional Authority, were reportedly operating with impunity — extorting money from illegal miners and facilitating galamsey activities in the area.

A dawn operation conducted by the NAIMOS team led to the arrest of the group, who were found in possession of weapons and talismans. The operation formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal mining networks and clamp down on impersonators obstructing the government’s anti-galamsey campaign.
According to NAIMOS officials, the arrested individuals had been posing as members of the official task force to intimidate small-scale miners and collect illegal levies under the guise of enforcement operations.
The suspects have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.
NAIMOS has cautioned the public against dealing with unauthorized groups claiming to represent the task force, assuring that the Secretariat will continue to work with security agencies to restore order in mining communities.
