The National Association of Registered Midwives, Ghana (NARM-GH) has joined the global midwifery community in commemorating the International Day of the Midwife (IDM) 2025.

This year’s theme, “Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis,” highlights the vital role midwives play in enabling health systems to prepare for, respond to, and recover from crises.

In a press release issued on June 5, 2025, NARM-GH emphasized the need for midwives to be recognized, protected, and fully equipped with the training, resources, and institutional support they need to deliver care and uphold rights in challenging situations.

The association also addressed recent developments regarding the implementation of the Conditions of Service (CoS) for Midwives. NARM-GH expressed its support for the implementation of the CoS but emphasized the need for a lawful, collaborative, and transparent approach.

The association clarified its position on the following matters:

  1. Collaborative engagements with the government: NARM-GH participated in meetings with the Director General of the Ghana Health Service and the Minister for Health to discuss the implementation of the CoS.
  2. Decision on industrial action: NARM-GH stated that it was not consulted before the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) declared an industrial action.
  3. False allegations: NARM-GH refuted allegations that its executives had unlawfully received benefits from any ministry.

NARM-GH called for calm, continued engagement, and unity among stakeholders, emphasizing its commitment to constructive dialogue and strategic collaboration.

The association advised midwives who experience intimidation or undue pressure to contact the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) for assistance.

NARM-GH reiterated its dedication to protecting the rights and professional dignity of all its members.
