Martin Kpebu Slams Ofori-Atta Over “Misleading” Medical Claims Amid Interpol Red Notice

Prominent legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticized former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for allegedly misleading the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) about the nature of his medical travels, arguing that this dishonesty contributed to his inclusion on Interpol’s Red Notice list.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on June 10, Mr. Kpebu revealed that he had initially opposed the OSP’s first attempt to issue an interpol Red Notice for Mr. Ofori-Atta. At the time, the ex-minister had reportedly informed the appropriate authorities about his travel, prompting Mr. Kpebu to consider the Red Notice unwarranted.

However, new details about the nature of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s medical procedure have changed his position. “At first, I disagreed because he gave notice. But the second time around, based on what has come out, he deserves to be on that list,” he stated.

The lawyer explained that Mr. Ofori-Atta had portrayed his March 2021 medical trip as urgent and serious, suggesting it involved a major surgery. Yet, it was later revealed that the procedure was a relatively routine MRI-guided biopsy, not the extensive operation previously implied.

Mr. Kpebu emphasized that the lack of full disclosure raised serious concerns about Ofori-Atta’s transparency and accountability, especially when dealing with an anti-corruption agency. He described the former minister’s silence after presenting an exaggerated medical narrative as a key reason the OSP was justified in seeking international assistance to locate him.

This latest development adds to growing scrutiny over Mr. Ofori-Atta’s engagements with investigative authorities and underscores the legal implications of withholding or distorting critical information in high-profile investigations.
