The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled a high-level meeting with all individuals who have declared their intention to contest the party’s 2026 presidential primaries, as part of efforts to address internal tensions and reinforce discipline within the party.
According to a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the meeting will take place on Thursday, July 3, 2025, and will involve the aspirants, the National Steering Committee, and the National Council of Elders.
The statement emphasized that the meeting seeks to “discuss matters of mutual interest” and foster unity as the NPP heads into a crucial leadership transition.
“This engagement is part of the party’s broader strategy to maintain cohesion and discipline in the lead-up to the flagbearer elections,” the statement read.
Disciplinary Action and New Directives
In a related development, the party’s Steering Committee has referred Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman, to the National Disciplinary Committee. He is accused of making unguarded public comments in violation of party guidelines, despite previous warnings from the National Council.
The party has also issued a directive ordering an immediate halt to all caucus meetings or gatherings involving current or former party executives and government appointees with presidential aspirants. These activities, the party says, contravene internal regulations designed to maintain fairness and neutrality ahead of the primaries.
“The Party wishes to once again remind members of their constitutional obligation to protect party unity, to abide by and publicly support the Party’s decisions, and to refrain from engaging in acts that threaten party cohesion,” the statement added.
The NPP is gearing up for a competitive flagbearership race as it prepares to select a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2028 general elections.
