Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Ajumako Kokoben Amid Poor Weather

Ajumako Kokoben, Central Region – August 6, 2025 – A helicopter with four individuals onboard made a forced landing at Ajumako Kokoben in the Central Region on Wednesday morning, narrowly avoiding disaster.

The aircraft, registered as 9G-ADW, was en route to Prestea in the Western Region when the pilot was forced to divert due to poor weather conditions, making an unplanned landing at the Ajumako Kokoben Community School park at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Pilot Cites Bad Weather

According to eyewitness accounts, the pilot explained that continuing the flight would have posed significant risks, prompting the emergency maneuver.

“He told us the weather was too bad to continue. It was better to land safely here than risk flying into trouble,” a local resident recounted.

The helicopter remained grounded for over three hours before eventually taking off again once weather conditions improved. No injuries were reported, and all passengers were said to be in stable condition.

Coincidence with National Tragedy

This near-incident occurred just an hour before the tragic crash of a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, which claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers and three military personnel.

While the two events are not connected, the proximity in time has intensified public concern about aviation safety and weather-related risks.

Mixed Emotions in the Community

Initially, residents of Ajumako Kokoben were thrilled by the rare sight of a helicopter landing in their town. But the excitement quickly turned to sorrow upon hearing news of the fatal crash in the Ashanti Region.

“We thought it was just a special visit or event, but then the news came, and it broke our hearts,” said one eyewitness.

Awaiting Official Response

As of this report, aviation authorities have not released an official statement regarding the emergency landing at Ajumako Kokoben. It is expected that an internal report will be filed, especially given the broader national context of heightened concern following the Adansi Akrofuom crash.
