NSA Mourns Passing of Ghanaian Boxer Ernest “Bahubali” Akushey

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Ghanaian professional boxer Ernest Akushey, popularly known in the ring as “Bahubali.”

His death was reported to have occurred on the night of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, sending shockwaves through the local boxing community and the broader sporting fraternity.

In an official statement, the NSA extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late boxer, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), and all stakeholders in Ghana’s sporting sector.

“The Authority shares in the grief of the bereaved family and the entire boxing fraternity, and stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time,” the statement read.

The NSA noted that it is currently awaiting a full report from the GBA on the circumstances surrounding Akushey’s passing, while also reaffirming its commitment to athlete welfare and safety.

“The NSA will continue to work with all relevant bodies to ensure the highest standards of athlete welfare are upheld in all disciplines,” the statement added.
