Former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to assist with ongoing investigations following a formal petition lodged against him.
The petition was filed by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat and a key figure in the ongoing ambulance procurement case involving Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. Jakpa is calling for a probe into alleged professional misconduct and what he describes as an attempt to fabricate evidence.
Mr. Dame’s appearance at the CID headquarters in Accra drew considerable public and media attention, coming amid heightened scrutiny surrounding the Ato Forson trial.
Speaking to journalists, lawyer Kobby Amoah, who was present to support the former Attorney General, stressed that Dame remained innocent until proven otherwise.
“We are here to support the former Attorney General, Godfred Dame. There is a presumption of innocence, so unless someone is proven guilty, they remain innocent,” Amoah said. “We are all aware why he’s here — it’s about certain allegations that have been made against him flowing from the Ato Forson trial. We are here to ensure that due process is followed and to support him.”
He added that the legal team is confident in the process and committed to proving Dame’s innocence.
Investigations are expected to continue as the CID evaluates the contents of the petition and any accompanying evidence.
