Police Restore Calm After Violent Clash at Sampa Market; Officers Injured in Crossfire

The Bono Regional Police Command has restored order in Sampa following a violent confrontation between two rival factions that erupted at the town’s main market on Sunday, leaving several police officers wounded.

The clash, which involved the Sammordua and Sampba Gyafla groups, broke out on October 5, 2025, and quickly escalated into an exchange of gunfire and the burning of several market stores.

According to a police press release signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Regional Public Relations Officer, officers were dispatched to the scene after a distress call was received. The police team was also tasked with escorting a Ghana National Fire Service tender and an ambulance that was transporting a pregnant woman to a hospital.

However, upon arrival, the police found themselves caught in the crossfire between the armed factions. During the violent exchange, several officers sustained gunshot injuries. The situation forced the police service vehicle, with registration number GP 686, to veer off the road into a ditch.

The injured officers were rushed to the Sampa Government Hospital for emergency treatment. Seven were treated and later discharged, while one officer, who suffered a head injury, was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further specialist care.

The police have since intensified patrols in the area and report that the situation in Sampa is now calm.

The Bono Regional Police Command has assured the public that it is taking all necessary steps to apprehend all individuals involved in the disturbances.

“The Bono Regional Police Command assures the public that every effort is being made to arrest all individuals involved in the disturbances,” the release stated.
