Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged China’s continued support to help Ghana harness its natural resource wealth for sustainable development, while also offering access to Beijing’s zero-tariff policy for African nations.
President Xi committed during bilateral talks with Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama in Beijing, on the sidelines of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women. The meeting also marked the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China, highlighting the deep-rooted ties between the two countries.
“China is ready to work with Ghana to promote the upgrading of cooperation in various fields and make greater contributions to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era,” President Xi said.

He called for stronger collaboration in key sectors including mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and fisheries, while urging both nations to accelerate the implementation of commitments made during the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Strengthening Strategic Cooperation
President Xi emphasized China’s commitment to expanding economic and political cooperation with Ghana, stating that the two countries should deepen strategic alignment and explore new opportunities for mutual growth.
President Mahama, for his part, praised China for hosting the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, commending the country’s leadership in championing gender equality and women’s empowerment on the global stage.
“Our partnership with China has always been anchored on mutual respect and shared development goals. We look forward to strengthening this bond for the benefit of our two nations,” President Mahama said.
He reiterated Ghana’s adherence to the One-China policy and expressed optimism about scaling up cooperation in areas vital to Ghana’s economic transformation.
Commitment to Multilateralism
President Mahama also reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to multilateralism and global governance reforms, calling for fairness and justice in international relations.
The high-level meeting reaffirmed the long-standing diplomatic and development partnership between Ghana and China, with both leaders expressing confidence in building a more dynamic and mutually beneficial relationship in the years to come.
