The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment has launched a new Safety and Compliance Monitoring App, designed to revolutionize workplace inspections, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and strengthen enforcement of occupational safety standards nationwide.
Hon. Dr. Abdul – Rashid Hassan Pelpuo (MP), Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, has officially unveiled the application, describing it as “a vital step toward building safer workplaces, fairer markets, and a stronger economy.”
“This initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s national priorities to reduce inefficiency, promote decent work, and foster responsible business practices,” she said. “Data-driven enforcement will help us protect workers, encourage investment, and ensure that no violation goes unnoticed.”
Hon. Dr. Pelpuo emphasized that the app represents more than just a technological advancement, noting that “it ushers in a new culture of enforcement.”
“With the Safety and Compliance Monitoring App, Ghana is setting a new standard for protecting workers and ensuring that every workplace is safe, fair, and accountable,” she added.
The app will serve as a central database for inspection records, facilitating real-time information exchange among key regulatory agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Ghana National Fire Service, Labour Department, and the Ghana Immigration Service, among others.
Representing the Ministry’s Special Taskforce for Inspection and Compliance, Eng. Thomas Kwadwo Boakye revealed that over 1,500 companies have already been registered during the pilot phase. Many of these firms were found to lack valid safety permits, fire certifications, or proper worker registration.
“This platform ensures that such gaps are instantly flagged and addressed,” Eng. Boakye noted.
He further announced plans to establish a unified inspection protocol, train officers across agencies, and develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide data sharing and chain-of-command coordination.
Through the new system, once a non-compliance issue is recorded in the field, whether related to occupational safety, fire certification, environmental standards, or labour documentation, it will automatically be transmitted to the relevant agency for immediate follow-up.
The digital platform supports real-time verification of inspections, standardized reporting, and instant data sharing among enforcement bodies. It forms part of the government’s broader commitment to promoting safer workplaces and ensuring employer compliance with national labour, health, and safety regulations.
