The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the John Mahama administration of orchestrating a systematic campaign of harassment and intimidation against its members through the misuse of state institutions.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong expressed concern over what he described as growing political interference in the operations of security agencies and sections of the judiciary.
He claimed that state institutions, which are meant to operate independently, have been turned into “political weapons” used to silence critics and suppress opposition voices.
“The party has held demonstrations and numerous press conferences reminding President John Mahama and his government that we are a nation of rule of law,” he said.
Mr. Kodua further alleged that the government has ignored calls for restraint, warning that Ghana’s democracy is being slowly poisoned by the abuse of power. He also raised concerns over persistent violations of constitutional rights, particularly Article 14 of the 1992 Constitution, which guarantees bail for persons arrested or detained.
Despite these challenges, he reaffirmed that the NPP will not be intimidated and will continue to pursue justice and accountability.
“Unfortunately, all our calls are falling on deaf ears, but as a party, we shall not back down on our resolve to fight this injustice,” he emphasised.
