The Black Stars’ challenging tour of Asia continued on Tuesday as Ghana narrowly lost 1–0 to South Korea in Busan, concluding their Kirin Cup campaign without a victory and raising concerns ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.
A second-half header from Lee Tae-Seok decided the match in favor of the hosts, punishing a Ghanaian side that created several chances but lacked the finishing touch and composure needed at this level. Ghana started the game strongly, showcasing promising moments in the first half.

Kamaldeen Sulemana tested the South Korean goalkeeper early, drifting inside to force a save, while Christopher Bonsu Baah’s shot inside the box was blocked. Ghana’s goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, was outstanding, making a series of sharp saves—including a notable stop to deny Hyeok-Kyu from close range—to keep the score goalless.

Despite Ghana’s control in parts of the first half, they struggled to convert their opportunities. Headers from Prince Adu and Bonsu Baah went wide, and Brandon Thomas-Asante hit the post from a distance early in the second half.

South Korea gradually took control of the game. After persistent pressure and several corners, Lee Tae-Seok rose highest to head home a cross from Lee Kang-In in the 63rd minute, putting Korea ahead. Ghana pressed for an equalizer, with Thomas-Asante twice going close and Kamaldeen narrowly missing after a clever link-up with Caleb Yirenkyi. In the 74th minute, Korea was awarded a penalty, but Benjamin Asare produced a brilliant save to deny Hwang Hee-Chan and keep Ghana’s hopes alive.
Despite the late efforts, Korea managed the game effectively, slowing the tempo and frustrating Ghana with smart fouls. The Black Stars end the Kirin Cup without a win, having also lost to Japan in their opening match.
The tournament has offered valuable lessons; while defensive discipline has improved and some players impressed, Ghana’s inability to score in open play remains a significant concern that the technical team must address.
Ghana’s upcoming international window presents an opportunity to reset, rebuild confidence, and develop the fluidity and results the team desperately needs.
