Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has attributed Ghana’s 1-0 loss to South Korea in their recent friendly match to the Asian side’s superior execution in front of goal.
Speaking after the game, which was the final friendly for Ghana in the 2025 calendar year, Addo acknowledged that while Ghana dominated possession and created numerous chances, it was South Korea’s clinical finishing that ultimately decided the outcome.
The match’s decisive moment came in the 63rd minute when Lee Tae-Seok scored the winning goal. Ghana also had a golden opportunity to equalize when Hwang Hee-Chang’s penalty was saved by goalkeeper Benjamin Asare in the 74th minute, but Addo pointed out that the Koreans’ efficient use of their chances was the key difference.
“South Korea was more clinical with the chances they had. I think we had good ball possession and created a lot of opportunities, which we couldn’t convert. The difference was that they used their chances, even though they missed a penalty,” Addo explained. “I think the game was quite even and it was good to watch.”
Ghana’s recent results, including a 2-0 defeat to Japan prior to the loss against South Korea, highlight areas for improvement as the team prepares for upcoming fixtures. Addo’s comments suggest a focus on improving finishing and capitalizing on scoring opportunities moving forward.
