The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will take decisive action, including the possible cancellation of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary results, if ongoing investigations confirm any wrongdoing.
Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, stated that the party’s leadership is committed to restoring confidence in the internal electoral process and will rely strictly on facts rather than petitions or external pressure.
Speaking on the AM Show, Mr Gbande explained that the final decision will be guided by events that occurred during the primaries and the overall credibility of the process.
“The decision we take will be based on the surrounding circumstances, the actions that took place, and the credibility of the entire exercise,” he said. “We are not influenced by petitions or any form of pressure from individuals.”
He emphasized that the party will not permit any member to compromise its integrity.
“No individual will be allowed to hold the party to ransom. If restoring credibility requires a firm decision, the party will not hesitate to take it,” he added.
Mr Gbande clarified that the ongoing investigation goes beyond whether the results will be upheld or annulled, noting that the primary objective is to address the root causes of the controversy.
