President Mahama Departs for AU Summit in Addis Ababa

President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 39th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

The high-level summit, taking place in the Ethiopian capital, brings together African leaders to deliberate on key issues affecting the continent’s development, peace, and economic transformation.

President Mahama is expected to play a prominent role during the Assembly, leading several engagements on behalf of the Union, particularly in the areas of Reparations, Gender, and Financial Inclusion. As part of his official schedule, he will co-host a number of high-level side events aimed at advancing dialogue and policy coordination in these critical sectors.

On Saturday, the President will also host a breakfast meeting centered on the Accra Reset initiative, dubbed “Addis Reckoning.” The event is expected to convene policymakers, development partners, and other stakeholders to assess progress and chart a renewed course for Africa’s economic and governance reforms.

In addition to his official engagements, President Mahama is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with fellow African leaders and heads of multilateral organisations. He will also participate in the Italy–Africa Forum, which seeks to strengthen cooperation between African nations and Italy in areas of trade, investment, and sustainable development.

Accompanying the President is the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, who will attend the Summit of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). The gathering focuses on advocacy and partnerships to improve health, education, and women’s empowerment across the continent.

President Mahama and the First Lady are expected to return to Accra on Monday, February 16.
