The Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Cup match between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics has been successfully launched by FA President Kurt Okraku.
Representatives from both teams have accepted to play the Game in honor of the Gbese Mantse.
The Ghana Football has sanctioned the match ensuring a fair and competitive game.
The two clubs will rekindle their rivalry before the start of the 2023/24 season when they play at the Accra Sports Stadium with the game scheduled for August 20.
The Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Cup will be the first edition on the Ghanaian football calendar.
During the press conference, Theo Edzie Communications Director for the Gbese Mantse Palace said Gbese Mantse the second wants to use this game to Bring the Ga State together.
He also thanked the two clubs for coming together to honour Nii Gbese, promising that the King and his kinsmen would in return honour both teams with a royal visit.
He disclosed that Nii Gbese had ordered a trophy from the United Kingdom to be contested by the two teams and others for the best goalkeeper and best player of the match.
Elvis Herman, National Chapters Committee chairman for Hearts of Oak said they have accepted the offer and are ready to redeem their image against their rivals Great Olympics.
Emmanuel Saint Osei Communications Director for Great Olympics who represented Great Olympics also narrated that they have accepted to play their rivals Hearts Of Oak, and they will beat them again.
Launching the game, Mr. Okraku said he was excited about the game to honour the Gbese chief who he described as a football colossus.
He said Nii Gbese has gone through the ranks regarding club football administration and won a lot of accolades with Hearts of Oak.
“He also worked with Accra Great Olympics to help shape the club; it is, for this reason, such a game is perfect to celebrate a football administrator par excellence.”
In addition to the main event between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics, the Organising Committee has scheduled a thrilling pre-game curtain raiser between British High Commission and the Gbese Mantse the second officials.
The Chief Executive Officer of GoldStar Consult, Samuel Animal Addo, urged fans of the two teams to attend in their numbers to change the perception of fans not watching games.
