Patrice Motsepe Re-Elected as CAF President After Transformative First Term

South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected president of the Confederation of African Football
(CAF) for another four years. Motsepe, ran unopposed and secured his re-election at the CAF 14th Extraordinary General Assembly held on Wednesday in
Cairo, Egypt.
Motsepe holds the record of the first CAF president elected into the position in 2021, becoming the first
English-speaking president of the continental football body. Motsepe was elected in 2021 to replace Ahmad Ahmad, who FIFA suspended over financial
misappropriation in November 2020.
“The goal remains making African football competitive on the international stage, stabilizing finances, and
investing in infrastructure that allows our teams and players to thrive,” Motsepe said after his re-election.
Since his first election in 2021,
Motsepe has overseen significant developments in African football. Under his leadership, CAF has secured major sponsorship deals, improved financial
transparency, and expanded competitions, including introducing the African Super League. His tenure also saw increased prize money for CAF tournaments and
efforts to enhance the competitiveness of African teams on the global stage.
Motsepe’s greatest achievement came during the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, which attracted a
record-breaking global audience of 2 billion viewers. The tournament was a major success, generating a $72 million profit for CAF.
His re-election ensures he will
continue leading CAF’s transformation and growth, strengthening African football’s presence on the world stage, becoming the 8th CAF
president elected.
