Bargaining Right: NARM-GH President Calls for Midwives to Form One Union

By: Mensah Maxwell

In a clarion call to midwives across Ghana, the President of the National Association of Registered Midwives, Ghana (NARM-GH), Mrs. Leticia Asaaba Atiah, has urged midwives to come together and form one united union.

Speaking in an interview with ADOA news’ Mensah Maxwell, Mrs. Atiah emphasized the importance of unity among midwives, stating that a single, strong union would enable them to speak with one voice and advocate more effectively for their rights and interests.

“As midwives, we are stronger together. By forming one union, we can pool our resources, share our expertise, and present a united front in our negotiations with government and other stakeholders,” Mrs. Atiah explained.

The NARM-GH President’s call for unity comes at a time when midwives in Ghana are facing numerous challenges, including poor working conditions, inadequate resources, and limited career advancement opportunities.

By forming one union, midwives can work together to address these challenges and advocate for better working conditions, improved salaries and benefits, and enhanced career development opportunities.

Mrs. Atiah’s call for unity has been welcomed by many midwives, who see it as a vital step towards strengthening their profession and improving healthcare outcomes in Ghana.

As the debate on the formation of a single union for midwives continues, one thing is clear: unity and collective action are essential for midwives to achieve their goals and realize their full potential.
