Thomas Partey Faces Two Additional Rape Charges in UK

Villarreal midfielder Thomas Partey has been hit with two additional charges of rape in the United Kingdom, the British Metropolitan Police have confirmed.

The Ghanaian international was previously charged in August 2025 with five counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

According to reports by Spanish outlet Diario AS, the latest allegations stem from a separate complaint filed in 2020 and involve a third alleged victim.

Partey is scheduled to appear before a London court on Friday, March 13, where he is expected to enter a plea in relation to the new charges.

He remains on bail in connection with the earlier case, which involves two complainants and is still ongoing.

The 32-year-old left London on a free transfer after details of the initial case became public, signing a two-year contract with Spanish side Villarreal last summer. Despite criticism from some supporters, the La Liga club defended its decision to sign the midfielder, stressing the principle of presumption of innocence. Villarreal has yet to issue a statement regarding the latest development.

On-Field Struggles

Away from the legal proceedings, Partey has found it difficult to make a strong impression since his return to Spain. The former Arsenal midfielder has made 21 appearances for Villarreal, accumulating 1,068 minutes. However, he has started just 12 matches and completed only three full games.

Following Villarreal’s 3-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, manager Marcelino García Toral admitted it has been “very difficult to play” at Partey’s pace, suggesting the midfielder is still adjusting.

The combination of ongoing legal battles and inconsistent performances has cast uncertainty over Partey’s future and drawn increased scrutiny to both the player and the club.
