Bono Region to Host First Ghana Youth Agriculture Summit on May 22

The Bono Region is set to host the first-ever Ghana Youth Agriculture Summit on May 22, 2026, in a move aimed at encouraging young people to embrace agriculture as a pathway to economic growth, employment creation, and sustainable development.

The event, scheduled to take place in Sunyani, is expected to attract more than 2,000 young participants from across the region.

Held under the theme, “Economic Diversification through Agri-Entrepreneurship,” the summit seeks to position agriculture as a viable and rewarding career path capable of helping young people transition from unemployment and underemployment into stable and meaningful livelihoods.

Organisers say the programme is designed to create opportunities across the agricultural value chain while equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills needed to build resilient agribusiness enterprises.

The initiative also aims to strengthen food systems, encourage value addition, and contribute to poverty reduction through increased youth participation in agricultural production and entrepreneurship.

As part of post-summit activities, registered participants are expected to undergo intensive training and capacity-building programmes focused on agribusiness management and value chain development.

The programme forms part of broader national efforts to increase youth participation in agriculture, entrepreneurship, food production, and skills development across Ghana.

Speaking to the media, Evans Kyere-Mensah, Executive Director of Agricwealth Ghana and convener of the summit, said the initiative aligns with a long-term vision of training one million Ghanaian youth in agricultural value chains over the next five years.

Mr Kyere-Mensah, who is also an award-winning cassava farmer and a Global Council Member of the World Agricultural Forum, noted that the Bono Region edition will serve as the starting point for a nationwide rollout expected to cover all 16 regions within a year.

He added that the summit is expected to support national efforts aimed at diversifying the economy, increasing youth engagement in agriculture, and promoting sustainable food production across the country.
