In a bid to address the recurring power outages in Ghana, known as “dumsor,” the government has proposed a 1 cedi energy levy on fuel, diesel, and oil.
This announcement was made by the Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson in Parliament today.
According to the Minister, the levy aims to generate revenue to tackle the energy sector’s challenges, including the payment of debts and investing in power generation.
The government hopes that this measure will help stabilize the energy sector and provide a reliable power supply to Ghanaians.
It’s worth noting that the energy sector levy was first introduced in 2015 to address the power crisis, and it has been extended until 2035.
The government’s proposal to impose an additional 1 cedi levy on fuel, diesel, and oil is expected to be debated in Parliament.
Ghanaians will be watching closely to see how this proposal unfolds and whether it will bring an end to the persistent power outages.
