In a shocking revelation, Road Safety Expert Ruben Adjetey disclosed that road accidents drain a staggering GHC 1.6 million from Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) annually.
Adjetey made this startling statement on the Ghana Mpuntuo show on ADOA TV on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, during an engaging discussion hosted by Mensah Maxwell.
According to Adjetey, the economic burden of road accidents on Ghana’s economy is alarming and warrants immediate attention.
“The GHC 1.6 million annual loss is a conservative estimate, considering the direct and indirect costs associated with road accidents, including medical expenses, lost productivity, and damage to properties,” he emphasized.
The Road Safety Expert’s assertion underscores the urgent need for a multi-faceted approach to address the road accident epidemic in Ghana.
Adjetey called on stakeholders, including policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and the general public, to collaborate in implementing effective measures to reduce road accidents and mitigate their economic impact.
The Ghana Mpuntuo show on ADOA TV continues to provide a platform for thought-provoking discussions on critical issues affecting Ghanaian society.
Wednesday’s show shed light on the economic implications of road accidents, sparking a national conversation on the need for collective action to address this pressing concern.
