The CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry, Emmanuel Cherry, has called on the government to prioritize the development of a comprehensive National Road Development Plan to tackle the country’s perennial road issues.
Speaking on the #Ghanampuntuo show, Cherry emphasized the need for a national plan that transcends party manifestos and focuses on sustainable road development.
“We need to document a National Road Development Plan, not a party manifesto,” Cherry stressed. “A plan that will outlive governments and ensure that our roads are developed in a sustainable and systematic manner.”
Cherry’s comments come amid growing concerns over the state of Ghana’s roads, which have been plagued by potholes, congestion, and accidents.
The construction industry boss argued that a national plan would enable the government to prioritize road projects, allocate resources effectively, and ensure that roads are built to last.

“A National Road Development Plan will help us to identify the critical roads that need attention, prioritize them, and allocate resources accordingly,” Cherry explained.
He also emphasized the need for stakeholder engagement and collaboration in the development of the plan.
“We need to bring together all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority, contractors, and civil society organizations, to develop a plan that works for everyone,” Cherry said.
The call for a National Road Development Plan has been welcomed by many, who see it as a crucial step towards addressing Ghana’s road challenges.
