Team Ghana Wins 14-Medals at the Maiden Edition of the African School Games

Team Ghana put an impressive display at the inaugural African Schools Games held in Algeria, securing a total of 10 medals across six sporting disciplines: Badminton, Table Tennis, Basketball 3×3, Athletics, Taekwondo and Boxing.

The young athletes showed resilience, collaboration, team work and fought for national pride, in the School Games.

In Badminton, Ghana showed character, strength, yielding five medals. The girls’ doubles team clinched gold followed by another gold in the mixed doubles event.

The Men’s doubles team earned silver while singles competitor Obapomba Adu-Mintah showcased his talent to win a bronze. In addition, the mixed team also captured a bronze medal indicating a good performance for Ghana’s badminton players.

In Table Tennis, Mensah Michael Agyapong competed against tough opponents to secure a bronze in the Men’s singles, underlining Ghana’s rising promise in the discipline.

Ghana’s Basketball 3×3 squad exhibited determination and skill throughout the competition, overcoming an initial challenge to earn a well-deserved bronze in the highly competitive team event.

In the boxing arena, the Black Rockets demonstrated impressive technique. Ofori Richardson won bronze in the Light Flyweight (48kg) category.

Laryea William showed resilience to win a silver medal in the Flyweight (50kg) division, while Ablorh Abdul Rahman delivered a striking performance to capture silver in the Lightweight (60kg) category.

Jessica Mensah who competed in the girls 55kg Taekwondo event managed to win a Bronze medal whiles Egyan Christiana also won Bronze in the girls triple jump event in Athletics.

In Summary Team Ghana won 2 Gold, 3 Silver, and 9 Bronze.

Team Ghana’s impressive finish with 14 medals signifies the nation’s capabilities in youth sports.

The young and vibrant athletes did not only win medals but have acquired essential experiences that will aid them in their sporting discipline and in Ghana’s sporting prospects.
