Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning to face multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.
The 32-year-old footballer, who departed Arsenal in June following the expiration of his contract, has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the charges relate to incidents involving three women, alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during Partey’s tenure with the North London club.
Details of the Charges
- Two counts of rape involve one woman
- Three counts of rape involve a second woman
- One count of sexual assault involves a third woman
Partey appeared in court wearing a black zip-neck jumper, standing quietly in the dock with his hands behind his back, according to a report by Mirror.co.uk.
Bail Conditions and Travel Restrictions
Under the conditions of his bail, Partey is:
- Prohibited from contacting any of the alleged victims
- Required to notify police of any permanent change of address
- Must inform authorities before any international travel
The court also heard that Partey is currently close to finalizing a deal with Spanish club Villarreal.
“I understand he’s no longer employed in this country and playing in Spain now,” said Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring during the hearing.
Legal Representation and Denial of Charges
Partey is being represented by Jenny Wiltshire, who reiterated his firm denial of all allegations.
“He denies all the charges against him and is looking forward to finally clearing his name,” Wiltshire told the court.
The case has now been referred to a Crown Court, where Partey is expected to make a further appearance in the coming weeks.
