Bank of Ghana Postpones Cedi@60 Launch Amid National Mourning

Accra, August 7, 2025

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced the postponement of the national launch of the Cedi@60 commemorative programme, which was originally scheduled for Friday, August 8.

The decision comes in the wake of the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including Minister for Defence Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Central Bank said:

“The Bank of Ghana wishes to inform the general public and all stakeholders that the official launch of the Cedi@60 celebration has been postponed until further notice in solidarity with the national period of mourning.”

President John Dramani Mahama declared three days of national mourning beginning Thursday, August 7, in honour of the victims of the crash that occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The Bank extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and expressed gratitude to the public for their understanding during what it described as a “difficult and solemn time for the nation.”

A new date for the Cedi@60 launch is expected to be announced after the mourning period.
