Story by Ministry of Health

Deputy Minister of Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has led discussions with Mr John Humphreys, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Africa, as part of efforts to advance Ghana–UK health sector partnerships.

Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah outlined Ghana’s health sector priorities, including Free Primary Health Care, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Care), and targeted improvements in health infrastructure, non-communicable disease management, emergency response systems, and vaccine manufacturing.

She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to preventive and promotive healthcare at the community level through CHPS compounds and other primary health care initiatives. She further emphasized government’s focus on reducing mortality linked to non-communicable diseases and expanding access to lifesaving treatments such as dialysis.

Mr Humphreys commended Ghana’s progress and expressed the UK government’s readiness to deepen collaboration in strengthening the health sector. He cited the recent UK–Ghana Health Trade Roadshow, which successfully connected Ghanaian healthcare buyers with British companies specializing in medical technology, training, and services.

Both sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in key areas, including health infrastructure, biomedical engineering, vaccine manufacturing, ethical health workforce migration, and digital health systems.

The Ministry of Health confirmed its intent to work with the UK in leveraging technical expertise, investment, and innovation to achieve universal health coverage and other priority health sector goals.
