Gomoa East, Ghana – September 25, 2025
The Gomoa East District Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has categorically denied media reports suggesting that 20 cases of diarrhoea have been recorded in a coastal community within the district, allegedly linked to an ongoing water supply crisis.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Directorate said a thorough audit of health records as of September 24, 2025, found no such cases at the Fetteh CHPS Compound, contrary to earlier claims circulating in the media.
“The data currently available to the Directorate does not support any assertion of an outbreak or abnormal increase in diarrhoea conditions across the district,” the statement noted.
It also confirmed that no adjacent health facility has reported any increase in diarrhoeal cases during the period under review.

No Public Health Emergency Declared
While the Directorate acknowledged ongoing challenges with potable water access, following the temporary shutdown of the Ghana Water Company Limited’s headworks at Kwanyako, it stressed that the situation has not escalated into a public health emergency.
“We continue to work closely with local authorities and partner agencies to uphold sanitation and hygiene standards in all health facilities and communities,” the release stated.
Surveillance Systems Fully Active
The Directorate further assured the public that the district’s disease surveillance infrastructure remains fully operational, with active monitoring across all sub-districts.
“There is currently no epidemiological evidence to suggest the emergence of any waterborne disease cluster in Gomoa East,” the statement concluded.
The health authorities urged the public and media outlets to verify information before publication, warning that unverified reports could cause unnecessary panic and undermine community trust in the healthcare system.
