Accra, Ghana – September 26, 2025
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially appointed Desmond Ofei, former head coach of the Black Satellites and current assistant coach of the Black Stars, as the new head coach of the national U23 team, the Black Meteors.
Ofei takes over from Kassim Mingle, who has been reassigned as head coach of the Black Galaxies, Ghana’s national team for home-based players.
Strong Technical Bench Named
Ofei will be supported by an experienced backroom team:
- Yaw Preko and Baba Nuhu Malam – Assistant Coaches
- Montari Tagoe – Goalkeepers Coach (Former Asante Kotoko & Medeama SC goalkeeper)
- Atta Yeboah – Team Manager (Aduana Stars Welfare Officer)
- Henry Bart-Plange – Team Masseur
- Baba Aluta – Equipment Officer (Aduana Stars)
- Eli Vorgbe – Video Analyst
- Dr. Eric Tetteh – Team Doctor
- Collins Annor – Physiotherapist
The GFA stated that the newly constituted technical team is expected to provide “the necessary support to elevate the Black Meteors’ performance” as preparations begin for upcoming international assignments.
A Mission to End Olympic Absence
Ghana’s U23 team has not qualified for the Olympic Games since 2004, and the GFA is counting on the new technical direction to revive the team’s fortunes.
“This is a crucial appointment as the Black Meteors seek to return to the Olympic stage and assert their dominance in youth football across the continent,” a GFA official said.
Coach Desmond Ofei is known for his youth development expertise and tactical acumen, with experience across various age categories in Ghana football. His appointment signals a push for continuity between Ghana’s youth and senior national teams.
