Former head coach of Accra Great Olympics, Annor Walker, has passed away at the age of 64 following a short illness. He died at his residence in Accra on October 1, 2025.
A revered figure in Ghanaian football, Walker is fondly remembered for his transformative work with Great Olympics, where he built one of the club’s most competitive teams in recent Ghana Premier League history.
Over a career spanning several decades, Walker coached multiple Ghanaian clubs including Nania FC, Kpando Hearts of Lions, and Berekum Chelsea. A CAF License A holder, he first rose to national prominence with Nania FC, serving as assistant and later head coach between 2005 and 2011.
His crowning achievement with Nania came in 2011, when he guided the club to a historic MTN FA Cup victory, defeating giants Asante Kotoko 1–0 in the final at the Accra Sports Stadium—securing the club’s first major trophy.

In February 2020, Walker took the reins at Accra Great Olympics, revitalising the club with bold ambitions and tactical discipline. Despite suffering health challenges that briefly sidelined him, he returned with renewed energy, leading the team to a top-half finish in the Ghana Premier League.
Under his leadership, Great Olympics became a formidable side, particularly in the high-stakes Accra derby against city rivals Hearts of Oak, making the fixture a must-watch once again.
Walker also served as head coach of Ghana’s Black Galaxies, guiding the national home-based team to the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament reserved for players competing in their domestic leagues.
His death marks a significant loss to the Ghanaian football community, with tributes expected to pour in from clubs, former players, and fans who admired his passion, resilience, and tactical brilliance.
