The Government of Ghana has presented GH¢500,000 to the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team in recognition of their remarkable victory at the World University Football Games, where they defeated Brazil in the final.
The presentation was made by President John Dramani Mahama during a courtesy call by the team and university management at the Jubilee House.
President Mahama hailed the team’s performance as an extraordinary achievement that has brought honour and pride to Ghana on the global stage.
“The presidency is also pleased to present you with something. We won’t let you go empty-handed. So this is GH¢500,000. It is a reward to the team for the good job you have done,” he stated.
The President congratulated the players and coaching staff for their discipline, teamwork, and commitment, which he said were key to their success against a football powerhouse like Brazil.
The UDS team’s victory marks a historic milestone for Ghanaian university sports and underscores the potential of young athletes when given the right support and opportunities.
