Ghana’s Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has condemned the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) President, Rev. Isaac Owusu, for advising male teachers to date their female colleagues instead of students.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Dr. Leonard Kaledzi Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence Education at Anloga on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Mr. Iddrisu described the remarks as “inappropriate” and tantamount to sexual harassment.
Minister Iddrisu condemned the statement as unprofessional and detrimental to creating a safe, ethical learning environment. He issued a stern warning, clarifying that the GNAT President’s suggestion was equally unacceptable.
“Any teacher found in a compromising act with a student will be punished,” he stated. “Furthermore, I must remind the GNAT President that pursuing female colleagues, as he suggested, can itself constitute sexual harassment and violates our code of conduct.”
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strict discipline, promising severe sanctions for any professional misconduct.
