Former President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, for securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will jointly host.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, President Mahama wrote:
“Congratulations to the senior national team, the #BlackStars. Another qualification for the World Cup. #ResettingGhana.”
The Black Stars clinched their qualification with a narrow 1–0 victory over Comoros on Sunday night at the Accra Sports Stadium. The win marked a turnaround performance after back-to-back defeats to the island nation in previous encounters.
The match-winning goal came early in the second half from Mohammed Kudus, the in-form midfielder from Tottenham Hotspur, who broke the deadlock and sent fans into celebration across the country.
This triumph secures Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup since their historic debut in 2006, reaffirming the team’s status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
