The Ghana National Female Hockey Team, the “Black Sticks” have won Silver Medal after an impressive outing at the 9th Women’s Hockey Africa Cup of Nations in Cairo, Egypt.
The Black Sticks Journey to the final was marked by dominant and impressive performances, beating the host, Egypt 8-1 and thumping Nigeria 5-1.

Before the finals they wrapped up the single round robin games with a 5-2 win over Kenya.
In the final, Ghana faced a strong south African team, who clinched the Gold Medal with a 4-0 win. Despite losing the final, the team’s silver medal success was highlighted with individual accolades as Goalkeeper Dorothy Ngissah of Extinguishers Club was named as the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper, while Mavis Berko Boatemaa of GRA Ladies Club won the Top Scorer award with 6 goals.



The Men, however couldn’t make an impact in the 12th Edition of the African Cup of Nations as they failed to make it into the medal zone.
Nigeria beat them by 2-1 in their opening game but bounce back strongly in their second game beating Zambia by 5-0.
They picked up another victory over Kenya but lost their fourth game to South Africa by 11-3.
They also lost abysmally to Egypt, 7-3 in the last game, finishing 5th on the table with 4 points.
