Japanese Ambassador Launches 2025 Ambassador’s Cup to Strengthen Cultural and Sports Ties.

The 2025 Japanese Ambassador’s Cup, a major martial arts championship, has been officially launched by His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto and is set to take place at the DG Hathiramani Sports Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium from 15-16 November, 2025.

The 2025 Ambassadors Cup will highlight four traditional Japanese disciplines, Judo, Karate-do, Kendo, and Jiujitsu that will showcase sportsmanship, cultural and traditional exchange between Ghana and Japan.

Hiroshi Yoshimoto, the Japanese Ambassador applauded the four Ghanaian Budo federations for their remarkable partnership

“Japanese Budo is more than just a sport; it is a profound spiritual culture that emphasizes discipline and respect,” he stated.

President of the Ghana Karate-do Federation, Nathaniel Johnson and Chairman of the planning committee, emphasized the Ambassador’s Cup broader impact.

“Through this championship, we aim to elevate Ghana’s international martial arts profile and deepen the bonds of friendship with Japan,
Martial Art is more than a sport, it’s a discipline that builds character, resilience and leadership among our youth and Athletes.” he said.

Sensei Dickson Enam kwame Acolatse, Vice President of Ghana Kendo Federation showed appreciation to Hiroshi Yoshimoto for his support and made a passionate appeal to the ambassador to assist them with air ticket when traveling to Tunisia for their Kendo Championship

The Ghana Judo Association who was represented by Elkanah Dodoo was excited about the Ambassador’s Cup, highlighting some of the benefits they have gain from it.

“We are excited to be the longest participating member of the championship and have benefited from our long relationship with the Japanese Embassy. Our Athletes are very ready for the championship”

Meanwhile Jiujitsu will be competing for the first time in this year’s Ambassadors Cup upon invitation from the Japanese Ambassador
