Ghana’s Skeleton athlete Akwasi Frimpong has qualified for the 5th World Championship in Lake Placid, USA.
He will be the first African in history to compete in five world championship in sliding sports
The Championship is scheduled to take place in USA on March 6-9 and 15-16, 2025, and will bring the world best skeleton athletes for one of the most celebrated and prestigious sports event in the winter.

His qualification cements his place as the first African to qualify for five world championships in any sliding sports, representing Ghana and Africa on the Global stage making his maiden appearance at the 2018 Winter Olympics
The skeleton athlete has intensified his preparation towards the IBSF World Championship as he has made it his mission to make his country proud on the ice track.
He is now being coached by Zach Lund a former Olympian who helped him qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics.


Zach competed at the 2010 Olympics and served as Team USA skeleton coach, whose experience will mean a lot to Akwasi Frimpong.
Akwasi Frimpong is grateful to reunite with Zach Lund and excited for what they will build together.
Together, they aim to inspire a global audience with a message of resilience, hope, and the power of dreams.
Frimpong will also be supported by Dirk Matschenz (German native, China skeleton coach), who also coached him in the last three World Cup seasons and will continue to support him with equipment.
