Ghana Records Single-Digit Inflation for First Time Since June 2021

Ghana’s inflation rate has fallen to 8.0% in October 2025, marking the lowest level since June 2021 and continuing a tenth consecutive month of decline.

According to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), this represents a 1.4 percentage point drop from September’s 9.4% and a sharp improvement from the 23.8% recorded in December 2024, highlighting the easing of price pressures in the economy. Month-on-month inflation also fell by 0.4%, indicating a modest reduction in general price levels across major consumer categories.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Government Statistician Dr. Iddrisu Alhassan said the sustained decline reflects the impact of consistent monetary and fiscal measures aimed at stabilizing prices and strengthening the economy.

“For the first time since June 2021, Ghana has achieved single-digit inflation. This means the rate at which prices of goods and services are increasing has slowed significantly,” he noted.

Dr. Alhassan added that food, transport, and housing, key indicators of household welfare, have all seen improvements, with food remaining the largest contributor to inflation.

Economists have welcomed the return to single-digit inflation as a positive signal for investor confidence and consumer purchasing power, while cautioning that maintaining the trend will depend on global commodity prices, exchange rate stability, and prudent fiscal management.
