President Mahama Visits 37 Military Hospital After El-Wak Stampede

President John Dramani Mahama visited the 37 Military Hospital in Accra to check on victims of the tragic stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium.

During his visit to the hospital’s emergency ward, the President received briefings from medical officials on the condition of the injured and the ongoing response efforts. Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson and other government officials accompanied him.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have confirmed six deaths from the incident, with 12 others in critical condition, including five in the ICU. The stampede occurred when thousands of young Ghanaians thronged the stadium in a desperate attempt to enlist, leading to intense jostling and chaos.

Security personnel have cordoned off the area, with military officers blocking major roads to maintain order and support rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue.

The tragedy occurred amid an extended recruitment period, originally scheduled to close on October 31, 2025, but extended by a week due to technical challenges on the recruitment portal.
