CID (Ghana Police) Arrests Man in Viral Facebook Video Over Domestic Assault in Ofankor

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested John Odartey Lamptey, the man seen physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife in a viral Facebook video from Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.

Lamptey was taken into custody on Monday, November 17, 2025, at his family residence following widespread public outrage over the disturbing footage. In addition to the suspect, the CID also arrested two of his siblings—Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey—in connection with the incident.

The police disclosed that efforts are underway to locate the female victim, who reportedly fled the scene before authorities arrived. Her safety and well-being remain a top priority for the police.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that offenders face justice. The statement emphasized that the police will continue to act decisively in such cases and urged the public to report incidents of abuse promptly.

Additionally, police revealed that the suspects allegedly attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video. The police intervened quickly, rescuing the tenant and securing her safety.
