Ghana Inaugurates 11-Member Ministerial Oversight Committee for 2026 FIFA World Cup

An 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee has been inaugurated by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to supervise Ghana’s preparation and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The ceremony was held on Wednesday, November 26, at the Jubilee House.

In his address, Mr. Debrah charged the committee to discharge its mandate with integrity, diligence, and unwavering commitment. He stressed the importance of effective coordination across all sectors involved in Ghana’s World Cup campaign and urged members to explore broader opportunities the tournament presents beyond football.

Ghana qualified for the 2026 World Cup after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Comoros on Sunday, October 12, in Accra—securing the Black Stars’ fifth appearance at the global showpiece since their debut in 2006.

The Chief of Staff reiterated his expectations of transparency and integrity from the committee as preparations intensify toward the tournament.

Government Allocates GH¢150 Million for World Cup Campaign

In a related development, the government has earmarked GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, made the announcement on Thursday, November 13, during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament. He emphasized that the allocation reflects the government’s commitment to promoting sports development and enhancing Ghana’s representation on the global stage.

The funds will support the team’s preparations, logistics, and general participation in the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
