Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has charged the newly inaugurated Ministerial Oversight Committee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to take full responsibility for coordinating travel arrangements and protecting Ghana’s international image ahead of the tournament.
Speaking at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, during the inauguration of the 11-member committee, Mr. Debrah highlighted recurring challenges with visa arrangements for international tournaments, stressing the need for strict oversight.
“We task you to help coordinate the travel arrangements. Usually, we run into trouble when it comes to visas, and as you know, some people want to take advantage of the system and abscond, giving the country a bad name,” he cautioned.
The Chief of Staff urged the committee to engage proactively with officials at the U.S. Embassy to ensure a smooth process for qualified fans who wish to travel to support the Black Stars.
“The committee must make time to visit the appropriate officials at the American Embassy to make sure that Ghanaians are allowed to go and cheer up their team,” he added.
Promoting Ghana’s Investment and Tourism Potential
Beyond football, Mr. Debrah emphasised that the 2026 World Cup—jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico—offers Ghana a valuable platform to showcase its investment prospects and tourism attractions.
“This is also an opportunity for us to sell some of our investment potential to the world. So, not necessarily looking at football. What are some of the things we can associate with our presence there? Let people know that our country is also an investment opportunity. Promotion of our tourism is one, and I believe that strongly if we sell ourselves, we can make Ghana proud,” he said.
The committee is expected to play a central role in coordinating logistics, promoting Ghana’s image abroad, and ensuring that preparations for the tournament align with national interests.
