The National Democratic Party (NDP) has paid glowing tribute to its founder, the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as the party’s “guiding light” whose influence transformed women’s participation in politics and left a lasting mark on Ghana’s democratic evolution.
The tribute was delivered on Friday, November 28, during the State funeral at the Black Star Square, where thousands gathered to honour the former First Lady’s life, leadership, and national service.
A Pioneer Beyond Partisan Lines
According to the NDP, Nana Konadu’s activism and leadership transcended partisan politics, reaching global platforms where she championed equality, women’s empowerment, and social justice. Her work, the statement noted, ushered in “a new era of female participation in politics and governance,” inspiring countless Ghanaian women to seek leadership roles with courage and confidence.

A Mother, Mentor, and Visionary
The party described her not only as a political trailblazer but also as a mother, mentor, and visionary whose belief in service above self helped shape the values of the NDP.
Her moral strength, intellectual clarity, and compassion, according to the tribute, made her a unifying figure whose guidance influenced both the party and those who worked closely with her.
“She taught us that leadership is not inherited but earned through sacrifice, courage and the pursuit of justice,” the NDP stated.

A Life of Integrity and Patriotism
The NDP highlighted Nana Konadu’s integrity in both public and private life, praising the purpose and dignity with which she carried herself. Her commitment to the underprivileged, they said, reflected a deep and lifelong dedication to national progress.
“She lived for Ghana, worked for Ghana, and left behind a legacy that will forever guide the path of the National Democratic Party and the nation at large,” the statement concluded.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential political figures, is remembered for her powerful advocacy, her transformative leadership within the women’s movement, and her immense contributions to national development
