The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has paid glowing tribute to the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, honouring her as a transformative national figure whose life helped shape Ghana’s political, social, and democratic evolution.
The tribute was delivered by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, during her funeral rites at the Black Star Square on Friday, November 28.
“Your Legacy Endures” — Fifi Kwetey
Addressing mourners, Mr. Kwetey expressed profound gratitude for Nana Konadu’s decades of service, courage, and groundbreaking advocacy.
“Thank you, Nana Konadu… Thank you for the lives you uplifted. Thank you for the foundations you laid — foundations that can never be erased from the history of the PNDC or the NDC. Your race is run, but your legacy endures. Your fire continues to burn in a new generation unafraid to be bold,” he said.

A Legacy Reflected in Generations of Empowered Women
He noted that Nana Konadu’s impact is visible in the everyday empowerment of Ghanaian women and girls.
According to him, her legacy “lives on in every confident girl entering a classroom, every widow protected by law, every woman who now knows she can lead, and every community where early education has taken root.”
A Historic Presidential Candidate and National Trailblazer
Highlighting her historic 2016 bid for the presidency, Mr. Kwetey said Nana Konadu once again broke barriers as “the first woman to contest the presidency of the Republic of Ghana,” demonstrating her belief that leadership is not a male preserve.
He described her as “the very heartbeat of a movement that reshaped Ghana’s political, social and democratic landscape.”
Foundational Force in PNDC and NDC History
Nana Konadu was recognised as a cornerstone of both the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and later the NDC, playing a central role in the party’s formation, organisation, and strategic direction.
Her election in 2009 as First Vice Chairperson of the NDC acknowledged her enduring influence and foundational contributions.
A Lasting National Legacy
As tributes continue to pour in, the NDC emphasised that Ghana has lost a monumental leader whose courage, activism, and vision will continue to shape national discourse for generations.
