Supreme Court Halts Kpandai Parliamentary Rerun

The Supreme Court has directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend all activities and processes leading to the conduct of the Kpandai parliamentary rerun, pending the final determination of a case before the court.

The directive effectively puts on hold the EC’s preparations for the rerun election until the legal issues surrounding the matter are fully resolved.

When the case was called on Tuesday, the apex court adjourned proceedings to January 13, 2026, to allow for further consideration of the issues raised by the parties involved.

The planned Kpandai rerun has been the subject of legal contestation following disputes arising from the parliamentary election, prompting the Supreme Court’s intervention.

Until the court delivers its final ruling, the EC is barred from taking any steps toward organising or conducting the rerun in the constituency.

The decision is expected to have significant implications for the electoral calendar in Kpandai, as political stakeholders and residents await the court’s determination early next year.
