Akufo-Addo’s Office Denies Seeking Meeting with President Mahama Over Ofori-Atta

The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed reports suggesting that he is seeking an audience with President John Dramani Mahama to secure assurances for the safe passage of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The clarification comes amid an ongoing legal battle involving Mr Ofori-Atta and several anti-graft institutions, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), over allegations that he caused financial loss to the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the former president’s office described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.

“The Office wishes to state emphatically that this publication is utterly false. It is a total fabrication by the supposed source. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated such a consideration nor expressly or impliedly made any request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama,” the statement said.

The statement reaffirmed the former president’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law. While acknowledging his personal concern for Mr Ofori-Atta due to familial ties and his service during the Akufo-Addo administration, the office stressed that this concern does not translate into any attempt to interfere with ongoing legal processes.

“Hopefully, this sets the record straight on the matter,” the statement concluded.
