Mahama Vows to Make Second Term Count with Irreversible Reforms

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed strong determination to make his second term in office impactful, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening Ghana’s economy and improving governance systems.

According to the President, his renewed mandate will focus on implementing lasting economic and governance reforms that future administrations cannot reverse.

President Mahama returned to power after eight years in opposition, following his defeat in the 2016 general election.

Speaking at the Annual New Year School Conference on Tuesday, January 6, President Mahama said he was resolute in ensuring that the confidence reposed in him by Ghanaians yields tangible results.

“I have decided to make this second mandate so graciously granted to me by Ghanaians count. I have pledged to raise our economy and governance to a level that no succeeding government can reverse,” he stated.

The President noted that Ghana must serve as a model of democratic governance at a time when democracy is facing challenges in parts of the West African sub-region.

“In a region where democracy is backsliding, we must demonstrate that democracy works and that our people can have faith in their leaders to uphold their interests and create opportunities for national prosperity,” he said.

President Mahama further assured Ghanaians of his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and sound economic management throughout his tenure.

“I can assure Ghanaians also that we will not relax the current fiscal discipline and efficient management of the economy even in the election year of 2028,” he added.
