Asantehene Pays Historic Visit to Ghana Police Service Headquarters

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has paid a historic visit to the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service, underscoring the strong support of traditional authority for law enforcement in the country.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, brought together the revered monarch, senior police officials, and other traditional leaders in what was described as a landmark moment in relations between the Ghana Police Service and traditional leadership.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board and other senior officers, received the Asantehene and briefed him on ongoing initiatives aimed at improving public safety and strengthening crime prevention efforts nationwide.

In his remarks, the IGP expressed deep appreciation for the Asantehene’s consistent support for the police service over the years.

“Your support for the Ghana Police Service has been both fatherly and exemplary. I recall that you have hosted several IGPs and police leadership, offering counseling, guidance, and encouragement, with doors always open to us,” the IGP said.

The visit highlights ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration between traditional authorities and state security institutions, with stakeholders noting that such partnerships are crucial to fostering trust, enhancing intelligence sharing, and promoting a more coordinated approach to law enforcement in Ghana.

Observers have described the engagement as a significant step toward strengthening cooperation between customary leadership and the police in the collective pursuit of peace, safety, and national development.
