Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Attempting to Sell Three-Year-Old Son for GH¢1 Million

The Eastern South Police Command has arrested a man identified as Coffie Agyemang for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son for GH¢1 million.

The suspect, a resident of Kwamang in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, was arrested following intelligence gathered by the Akwatia Police.

According to the police, residents of the community revealed that the suspect had confided in a friend about plans to sell his child due to financial difficulties. The information was subsequently relayed to the police, prompting an intelligence-led operation.

Police officers placed the suspect under surveillance and posed as prospective buyers. During interactions with him, an amount of GH¢1 million was allegedly agreed upon as the price for the child.

The suspect was arrested after he reportedly brought the child to a designated location to finalise the transaction.

Police also disclosed that investigations are ongoing into allegations that the suspect intended for the child to be killed for ritual purposes, after which the body would be returned to him to suggest the child had been murdered elsewhere.

Confirming the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern South Police Command, DSP David Fianko Okyere, said police are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.

The child has since been placed in protective custody, while the suspect remains in police custody to assist with investigations.
