The Ghana Police has arrested three suspects drug trafficking in the Western Region after intercepting two truckloads of cannabis.
The Superintendent Relations Officer Olivia Ewurama Adico said the operation forms part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the region.
She added that, the suspect were transporting two trucks loaded with narcotics when they were arrested at the Asaman Barrier, she explained that police officers moved swift to the location after receiving a tip-off. Although the truck initially appeared to be carrying sawdust, further inspection and investigation revealed that the cargo was actually narcotics.
The Superintendent Relations Officer Olivia Ewurama Adico emphasized that, police in Ghana’s Western Region have arrested three men in connection with a major narcotics seizure involving two tipper trucks and have confirmed.
According to Superintendent Olivia, the Ghana police acted swiftly on a tip-off and intercepted one of the trucks at the Asaman barrier where it was believed to be carrying sawdust. However, a search revealed that, the cargo was suspected narcotics. Police later discovered a second truck linked to the operation at Nkroful Junction, leading to immediate arrest.
She said, the first suspect, Moses Kwaku Tawiah, 44year was apprehended at the scene. Shortly after his arrest, two men Issac Kwame 44year and Kwaben Forson 55year reportedly approached officers and attempted to offer GH69,000 in exchange for his release. Police rejected the offer and arrested the pair allegedly bribery.
Superintendent Olivia said the truck with registrations number GE 2965-12 and GS 3368-17, were transporting 152 bags of suspected drug, each reportedly contained 80 wrapped pieces.
She added that, investigation believe the consignment was being transported from Koforidu to Ivory coast. Police say all three suspects remain in custody while investigating continue.
