DACF Disbursements Rise Sharply from GH¢362m in 2024 to GH¢5bn in 2025

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has revealed a significant increase in funding to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), with disbursements rising from GH¢362 million in 2024 to GH¢5 billion in 2025.

According to the Minister, the funds were released through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), marking a major improvement in financial support to local authorities.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, April 20, he outlined a structured quarterly disbursement plan aimed at ensuring consistency and predictability in funding.

In the first quarter, GH¢790,372,058.40 was released, followed by GH¢1,464,983,309.60 in the second quarter. The third quarter saw GH¢1,188,921,640.80 disbursed, while the fourth quarter recorded the highest allocation at GH¢1,592,706,391.20.

The Minister explained that the timely and increased releases were tied to specific development targets expected of all assemblies.

These include the construction of at least two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, three classroom blocks, and ten boreholes in each district, alongside the completion of ongoing legacy projects.

He further noted that 25 percent of the Common Fund has been earmarked for the development of 24-hour economy model markets, in line with government efforts to boost local economic activity and create jobs across Ghana.
